What do you mean by a swayamwar? Choosing a life partner, on certain terms and conditions. Reminds me of Mata Sita's and Draupadi's Swayamwar, where all the eligible 'Vars', from the famous kingdoms, had to go through a test and on the basis of which, it was decided that he is the one. Such a superb idea! I wonder how Draupadi decided that he will be a suitable groom for her, just by hitting the eye of the fish with a bow. I know the test was a difficult task but then how will it help the bride decide that the winner is eligible to be her husband. Good the trend got stopped, else by these tests I don't think so I will be able to figure out who can be my life partner. Financial security was never an issue, as only princes who were an heir to huge kingdoms were invited. Swayamwar is common these days but the idea has been enhanced, people choose their life partners and marry them. Their life partners can be someone from their work place or a distant relative or someone they meet at the bus stop regularly or someone they met at a wedding or someone who fits their parents' checklist. But they never announce their choosing of a Var, so that people of opposite sex (or same sex depending on the preference) can take part in it. And here comes a swayamwar of destiny's controversial child. Calling it a reality show is good, but to what extent is it real? Why none of the family members are involved? Marriage means a union of two families, while here we see only guys (minus their families) flocking from different parts of the country, precisely from North-India; don't know what happened to the guys from other parts of the country.
A series of reality shows has started, where people compete with each other to win the show. By the kind of drama which is shown, they expect us to believe that all this is real. People fight when they are on the show, and as soon the show is over they kiss and hug and party. And as usual we get to vote our favorite contestants. I remember, shelling out Rs. 750 for an Indian Idol contestant. Till date I curse myself for such a childish act. So will it be the same in this reality show? Will the audience get to see real life drama? Will they fight amongst themselves to woo the bride to-be? Will we be given the chance to vote for a contestant, or vote out a contestant?
And last and very important question, will we have Swayamwar 2 for the guys who couldn't participate this time, due to prior commitments?
