The gift in my arms

The gift in my arms
The nurse had asked for some female to take her. I was the only one present. She gave her in my arms.

Lucky me
I considered myself to be the luckiest.

Tiny like my doll
She was so tiny, yet heavy. I was not used to picking up a baby.

Calm as Buddha
The look on her face, showed how her mind was devoid of any stress and was calm.

Smile like her dad
Oh, yes. She looks like her dad. The facial expression which he makes when he is asleep, ditto.

Lucky to be a look-alike
It’s said, daughters are lucky to resemble their dad.

Wrapped up in saree, from head to toe
We wrapped her in her grandma’s saree. And she slept like a log.

Trying to take her hand out
Once her tummy is empty, she would try different antics to attract our attention.

Opening her eyes to see us
She looks at us, to check why is it so silent, has everyone left me alone.

Closing it quickly
Once she realizes everyone is around, she goes back to sleep.

Acting as if asleep
Sometimes, she is not asleep, but too lazy to cry for food.
